300 companies commit to landmark step-change in aerospace and defence supply chain

SBAC announces the commitment of 300 companies to SC21.

The Society of British Aerospace Companies' (SBAC) is delighted to announce that it has secured the commitment of three hundred firms to its Supply Chains in the Twenty First Century (SC21) initiative in less than a year and a half.  The programme, originally launched at the Farnborough Air Show in 2006 with 19 companies will remove duplication, minimise waste and increase coordination. It is designed to help deliver increased competitiveness in the aerospace and defence industry by lowering the costs of doing business.

To have reached 300 signatories in such a short period of time demonstrates the excellent progress of the initiative. The national implementation plan, launched in July 2007, will maintain the momentum of the positive initial results.  These results should continue the steady stream of new signatories.

Ian Godden, SBAC Chief Executive, said

“SC21 is a landmark change in the aerospace and defence industry that will allow participating firms to improve their supply chain performance and cut down on the number and bureaucracy of supply chain audits.

“Three hundred signatory firms is a very good start.  However, we still have many more firms to sign up and I would encourage businesses that are involved in the aerospace supply chain to engage fully in SC21 to bring major benefits to their business.  I am confident that there are significant cost savings and business benefits available.  SC21 will contribute greatly to ensuring that the UK aerospace industry maintains its position as a world leader.”

Russ Armitage, SC21 Chairman, said

“SC21 has made tremendous progress in a short period of time.  The success of the programme demonstrates what can be achieved when all levels of the industry and the regional aerospace associations work together to achieve a common goal.  I thank those businesses that have signed up so far for their commitment and I would urge them to encourage other firms in their supply chain to come on board.”
