Supply chains for the 21st century

As fierce global competition accelerates change in the aerospace and defence industries, supply chains are not keeping pace and their underperformance could be a serious threat to profitable business growth. That was the strong message for the 60 delegates at the 21st Supply Chains (SC21) Task Force event hosted by global electronic solutions company Jabil.

In Livingstone, Scotland, Jabil Circuit hosted the two day conference for the SC21 signatory members. Launched by the Society of British Aerospace Companies in 2006, SC21 is an industrial change programme developed by and for the UK aerospace and defence industry. The main activities of this programme are to introduce a single supply chain accreditation; to determine a common development process with training and support; and to foster closer relationships between companies.

The event started with a Jabil Open House including key-note presentations and a tour of Jabil's 130,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility. “Jabil did an excellent job in supporting our conference,” said the taskforce's Project Manager, Phil Curnock. “Senior members of SC21 organisations who toured Jabil's shop floor were extremely impressed with the level of work that had been done to incorporate Lean Manufacturing principles which has created an excellent and efficient working environment.”
