Supply chain programme passes further growth milestone

27/10/2008

The Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) is pleased to announce that the Supply Chains for the Twenty First Century (SC21) programme has passed the important milestone of 400 members.

SC21, originally launched at the Farnborough Air Show in 2006 with 19 companies, aims to remove duplication, minimise waste and increase coordination between companies in the aerospace and defence supply chain. It is designed to help deliver increased competitiveness in the aerospace and defence industry by lowering the costs of doing business.

A large majority of the market is now contained within the SC21 community and the significance of the programme was reflected at the Farnborough International Airshow in July 2008 when the UK Ministry of Defence signed up to SC21.

Russ Armitage, Chairman of SC21, said:

“The sustained growth of SC21 within the aerospace and defence community is very encouraging and its success shows what can be achieved when the industry works together. Our supply chain is complex and high-tech so this continued progress is excellent news but we still have a long way to go with many more businesses in the sector that we need to get involved.”

Ian Godden, SBAC Chief Executive, said:

“In the current economic climate the global market in which we operate will become more and more competitive as companies seek out the remaining opportunities to win business. A lean supply chain will be vital in such a market and SC21 is the UK industry's opportunity to continue to be a world leader in aerospace and defence.”
