UK supply chain programme exported to Australia

13/06/2009

The Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) has today (Monday) announced that its successful and still-growing supply chains for the twenty-first century (SC21) programme for the aerospace and defence industry has been adopted by Australia. A memorandum of understanding with the Australian Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research has been signed and roll-out of SC21 in Australia will begin shortly. The announcement comes as SC21 passes the 500 member mark in the UK.

Peter Hogg, SC21 Chairman, said:

“We're very proud of the SC21 programme in the UK and it has delivered tangible benefits for many UK aerospace and defence businesses, large and small. We're delighted that this excellent progress is being recognised by overseas partners and we warmly welcome Australia into the SC21 fold. We're hopeful of further similar announcements with other partner nations in the future but, given the close ties between our two countries, we're pleased that Australia is the first country to adopt SC21 outside the UK.”

Implementation of the SC21 in Australia is being led by the Australian Aerospace Industry Forum, supported by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.

Chair of the Australian Aerospace Industry Forum, Ian Honnery, said:

“Australian aerospace companies have achieved significant success in global markets and need to continue to improve their competitiveness in a dynamic business environment. By delivering higher performance supply chains across Australia, SC21 will assist firms enhance processes, increase efficiency, improve relationships and drive innovation. Australian aerospace and defence firms strongly support the implementation of SC21.”

Launched at the Farnborough Airshow in 2006 and now boasting over 500 UK-based member companies, supply chains for the twenty-first century (SC21) is designed to deliver leaner, better-performing supply chains and more effective working across business relationships.
