notes and clarification
The aerospace industry is generally subdivided into the industrial sectors of Aircraft & Frames, Engines and Equipment, and product segments Aircraft (incl. Helicopters), Missiles and Space.
Unconsolidated turnover is the sum of each company's total aerospace turnover. SBAC no longer collects data on intra
Turnover or sales are further split into three types:
- Sales to National Government (to the UK Government and EU institutions such as the European Space Agency (ESA))
- Sales to Aerospace Industry (supplying to the global aerospace industry)
- Sales to Other Customers (end users such as airlines, and overseas governments)
Turnover is also split into domestic and export markets, which is defined into the following categories:
- Sales to UK
- Sales to EU
- Sales to USA
- Sales to the Rest of the World (RoW)
A final further split is allowed for civil and defence turnover.
It should be noted that Orders placed on the basis of a Letter of Intent (LoI) are not included in the Order Intake section. Because of frequent cancellations and the need for a consistent European approach, orders are based upon legally based contracts and may therefore slightly under-record the total number of signed and non-signed Orders.
