The aerospace industry employs 250,000 people and has an annual turnover in excess of £18 billion in the UK. The industry offers numerous opportunities, at many different levels, including modern apprenticeships, graduate development schemes and routes for mature entry.

There are several of sources of information regarding careers in aerospace; the best place to start is often the companies themselves, check out our member directories below

  • SBAC online directory for companies working in the civil air transport, aerospace defence and space systems and services sectors.
  • BAG online directory for companies working in the airports sector.

There are opportunities for secondees from industry to work with SBAC from time to time. Secondees to SBAC have a variety of responsibilities, including providing meeting support, completing research and data analysis projects, preparing briefing notes and stakeholder communications, meeting with industry and government representatives, and supporting the development of strategic technical programmes across the sector.

Secondments have previously been sponsored by organisations such as Airbus, Smiths, QinetiQ and the MoD. Individuals have been either R&T professionals with 3 - 5 years of aerospace industry experience or members of fast-stream/fast-track programmes.

In addition, independent organisations such as the Royal Aeronautical Society or the Association of Aerospace Universities offer careers information.
