Sustainable Aviation: A Strategy Towards Sustainable Development of UK Aviation

The publication of Sustainable Aviation marks an historic development with all sectors of the UK aviation industry working together to produce a long-term strategy that balances the needs of the environment with economic growth and social responsibilities. The strategy has been developed by UK airlines, airport operators, aircraft manufacturers and the principal air navigation service provider. Further information is available on the Sustainable Aviation website and through our Civil Air Transport pages.

A 14-page summary of the strategy can be downloaded. This covers the following topics: sustainability, environmental challenges, value of the aviation industry, role of government, governance, reporting and participation, tackling climate change, noise, local air quality, natural resources, economy, social issues, taking sustainable aviation forward and indicators.

Aviation & Environment Research Database (AERD)

Created by the SBAC, on behalf of the Greener by Design, Science and Technology sub-group, the Aviation & Environment Research Database (AERD) catalogues research from the UK, Europe and USA that covers the area of aviation?s impact on the environment.

The AERD was produced to fulfil the recommendations made by the Aerospace Innovation and Growth Team report of 2003. Subsequently, the AERD has aided in the identification of research activities that will enable the delivery of technologies for cleaner and quieter air transport. The AERD is a compilation of current research activities in aircraft design that will result in improved environmental performance.

The AERD can be used as a tool by researchers, industry, government and the public to find out about research being carried out in the area of aviation?s impact on the environment and the atmosphere.

Feedback and Input:

Further information on the projects may be found from the information source in the AERD or alternatively, please contact Media and Member Communications. If you have further information, updates or corrections on projects contained in the database or any general comments please also send them on this form.  Information on how to use the AERD and a brief analysis of contents can be downloaded below.
