UK aerospace industry survey 2008
The survey shows that the UK industry performed strongly in 2007, that it has the ability to weather the global financial crisis due to its long-term view and nature, evidenced by the strong orders reported as well as an increase in R&D investment from £2.5bn in 2006 to £2.92bn in 2007.
Orders remained strong, rising by 65 per cent to a record £43.8 billion and productivity has improved consistently over the last decade. The record orders announced at the Farnborough International Airshow 2008 ($88.7 billion) were likely the bookend to the order boom that peaked during 2007.

The information provided in this booklet is primarily the result of the UK aerospace industry (UKAI) Survey of 2007 undertaken by SBAC in 2008. Data has been collected not only from SBAC member companies but also other aerospace companies (e.g. consortia, joint ventures, nonmembers and airline maintenance companies) both in the UK and the rest of the world. The results of the survey are used by a wide variety of stakeholders in the aerospace industry, including government ministers and departments including Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, Ministry of Defence, Department for Transport and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), The Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), SBAC member companies and respondents to the survey.
