sbac/smmt industry forum

In 2004, SBAC ran a joint operation with SMMT Industry Forum to deliver a series of lean workshops deployed in single organisations or through strategic value chains.

This programme, aimed at delivering process improvement throughout the supply chain, has delivered measurable financial and non-financial benefits.

The masterclass programme is being deployed across the UK. In the South West, the SBAC/SMMT Industry Forum delivered the masterclass as part of the South West Regional Development Agency/ West of England Aerospace Forum Competitiveness Improvement Programme. In Scotland, the SBAC/SMMT Industry Forum deployed the masterclass programme for the Scottish Executive for all their sectors.

Working with some large equipment manufacturers, the masterclasses are being deployed as part of their supplier development strategies, working in partnership with the regional bodies. The aim is to advise the supply chain of the need to improve quality, delivery and cost metrics through sustained engagement of lean tools and techniques.

SBAC and the aerospace industry has welcomed the DTI's decision to allow UK aerospace supply chains to propose Supply Chain Group projects for funding through the Automotive Innovation & Growth Teams National Supply Chain Group programme.
