Figure 10 UK aerospace order intake by type and sector 1997 - 2007

  • Total orders increased by 65 per cent in 2007 to £44.38bn.
  • All three sectors, engines, equipment and systems & frames, saw large increases in orders compared to 2007. The engine sector experienced the biggest jump in order intake, a 102 per cent increase on 2006; systems and frames orders increased by 49.1 per cent and orders in the equipment sector rose by 43 per cent.

  • The significant growth in orders was driven by increases from all global markets.
  • Orders from markets in the rest of the world (outside the UK, rest of the EU and USA) were up by 233 per cent to £16.1bn. Orders from the EU increased by 158.5 per cent to £14.6bn and orders from the USA were up by 15.1 per cent.
  • Orders from domestic UK markets declined by 32 per cent.

  • These UK companies all improved their performance in 2007, with a 7.88 per cent real increase in sales. Operating profit in these companies also increased in real terms by 5.99 per cent compared to 2006.
