Defence Technology Strategy

The Defence Technology Strategy was published in October 2006 and outlines the Government's research and development priorities for providing future military capability, detailing how the MOD will work together with Industry and academia to encourage innovation in support of the 's front line forces.?

Defence Industrial Strategy

Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS) was launched by the Government on 15 December 2005 to implement MoD's Defence Industrial Policy. SBAC was directly involved in discussions with the Government and played a key role in ensuring that the views of industry were fully represented and taken into account, particularly emphasising to Government the vital importance of a strategy if the UK was to transform its defence industrial base to meet the new requirements emerging and the needs of the armed forces.

National Defence Industry Technology Strategy

The first National Defence Industry Technology Strategy (NDITS) was published in March 2000. This report, commissioned by the National Defence Industries Council (NDIC) and the National Defence and Aerospace Systems Panel (NDASP), provides an update taking into account significant developments relevant to the defence industry. It identifies areas where industry believes it is important to invest; provides a coherent view across industry to facilitate collaboration between Government and industry; indicates how industry intends to maintain access to technology; and indicates where industry has aspirations, expectations and concerns. Coverage across all sectors and levels of the defence industry was achieved by a process of structured interviews and questionnaires routed through the trade associations (SBAC and Intellect) and the Defence Diversification Agency.

National Aerospace Technology Strategy ? Implementation Report

This Aerospace Innovation and Growth Team (AeIGT) report recommended the establishment of a National Aerospace Technology Strategy (NATS) as a partnership between Government, industry and academia. The report defines the background, process and structures necessary for the implementation of this strategy. It includes information on the industry, mechanisms for delivering a national aerospace technology strategy, the defence industrial policy, potential stakeholders, a proposed management structure and a list of recommendations. Defence Industrial Policy

This Ministry of Defence document outlines the Government?s Defence Industrial Policy. It covers the importance of the UK defence industry; a global background to the defence industry; new outlooks in the UK defence industry; the scope of the UK Defence industry; acquiring capability for the armed force;, competition policy, partnering, non-competitive procurement, market access, research and technology; and the future. (October 2002)

The Government formally reviewed the implementation of the Defence Industrial Policy after one year. The assessment is set out in a 14-page paper: First Review of the implementation of Defence Industrial Policy that can be downloaded from the MoD website.

Speech given by Derek Marshall to RUSI conference 26 June 2006

SBAC's Derek Marshall presented an industry perspective on the European Defence Agency, and in particular commented on the possibilities for improving the engagement between the Agency and industry, an issue which he believes is of great importance for both sides.
